What is music, anyway? Perhaps the most popular definition is as simple as it is profound: sound organized over time. Without question, the very fundamental substance of music is its aural aspect. However, if music could be boiled down to sound alone, the definition would have ended there.
Instead, it is important to recognize that music is also temporal in nature. It was written in a moment, and it is experienced in moments. Time is an aspect of music, because without time, music would not exist. Time is like a river that allows music to...
...flow. To come alive. And to make alive. And arguably the most important aspect of music is implicitly indicated by the definition's reference to organization - the living aspect. As with time, without life, there is no music. All music was composed or played by a living soul, and that life is breathed into the music, infusing it with life, meaning, and purpose.
And that purpose is to breathe the same life into a listener. That is the goal of vivo adesso. For music to awaken the listener to the joys of life in every moment - to truly be alive, now.
So what is music?
